ADVISORY NOTICE: September 6, 2012

Section 1.

In light of OTE Services discovering the possibility of Perfect Descent Auto-Belays being utilized as described in Section 2 of this notice, owners are advised to heed the following statements.
As of September 10th, 2012, there are three sample videos on this resources page, one showing a normal sounding device (see example 1 below) and two of them showing what a unit sounds like with gear damage (see examples 2 & 3 below).

Your daily inspections of your auto belay units should also include this auditory test. If you feel that you have any gear damage to your unit, IMMEDIATELY discontinue use and send it back to our service center for inspection. This inspection will be free of charge. Please contact us at info@perfectdescent.com to arrange for your inspection.

As always, make sure your designated inspectors are performing the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as written in your owner’s manuals. Make sure to add this auditory test to your list of daily inspections. This is crucial to maintain safe performance of your Perfect Descent Auto Belay unit.

Section 2.

RE: Perfect Descent Users Utilizing Units for Descending from Elevated Platforms
Mounting Requirements:

Refer to Section 4.0 of your Owners Manual for strength requirements including the following addendums:

  1. Mount your unit so that the attachment carabiner hangs 6 feet above the height of the platform floor.
  2. For units with the custom 4’ Lanyard Handle, mount your unit to a rigid structure at a minimum height of 14 feet above the platform.
  3. Mount your unit at a distance 20-24 inches protruding from the platform.
  4. Ensure the descent path and landing area are free of people and obstructions.

Usage Requirements:
It is most important to utilize your device without shock loading or dynamic loading your descender. Repetitive shock loading your unit will cause serious gear and axle damage to the unit, which can result in an accelerated descent speed and even unit failure. Users are required to sit back or step off the platform. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should they swing, jump or hop out for the start of their descent.
